How the Italian Tax Code works
The Italian tax code (Codice Fiscale) is a unique 16-character alphanumeric identifier. It is calculated from: Last name (3 consonants or letters), First name (3 consonants or letters), Year and month of birth (2+1 characters), Day of birth and gender (2 characters, +40 for females), Municipality of birth (Belfiore code, 4 characters), Check character (1 calculated character).
